Making PPC Advertising Pay

In case you haven't noticed, Pay-Per-Click search engine services are changing. Google has become a big player with its AdWords program, giving Overture lots of competition. In the process, both Overture and the sharp minds that brought Google from nowhere to be the monster of the search engines have also been busy carving out new territory that you should know about if you use PPC advertising, and even if you don't. What's new?

Conversion Tracking
Overture has allowed you to add a simple tracking code onto your URL so that you could tell that a visitor came from Overture, but Google has taken a big step beyond that. They now offer their advertisers free conversion tracking, and then some. The tracking function is put in place when an advertiser places a small snippet of code on a web page that is reached by the viewer only after a desired outcome has been achieved, such as a product sale. Up to four different outcomes can be reported back to Google and thus to the advertiser. They are a product sale, receipt of a lead, which may be followed up by the advertiser, a signup for any subscription or newsletter, or page views, including number of pages or length of the visit. Google’s conversion tracking service also allows the advertiser to assign a value to each outcome. You know how important it is to know which advertisements are producing the most profit, so this is a great way to do it. It seems certain that conversion tracking, especially offered as a free service, will be used more and more widely.

Contextual Advertisements
Both Google and Overture have also implemented an extended way to advertise the products you list with them, called contextual ads. In addition to listing your ad as search listing results according to your bid position, your ad can also appear on websites that have content related to your product or service. For example, if you sold digital camera memory modules, your ad could appear on sites that have digital camera reviews, or digital camera tips, etc. Your ad is superimposed on the page in addition to the existing content. Sounds great, right? Well, you need to watch your advertising dollars here. Most surfers who stumble onto your ad on some web page are not as likely to buy as someone who saw your ad as a result of an active search. Overture recognizes that fact and allows you to bid separately on contextual ad placements from the search listing ads. Google does not, however, although they may buckle under the pressure. You should also know that your ad will appear on contextual websites unless you specifically opt out of that part of their program, and Google doesn't go to great pains to tell you that is the way it works. So you may be wasting dollars on contextual ads and not know it.

Partner Site Advertising
If you don't advertise with either Google or Overture, you still should know about the other side of the equation. If you have decent traffic to your site, how about getting paid for having those contextual ads appear on your site? It's easy to do - considerably easier with Google than with Overture, which seems to be the case with other aspects of dealing with these two companies. You just submit your site and, if approved, you get a bit of code to add to your page which calls the appropriate ad whenever your page is viewed. Neither Google nor Overture tell you what percentage of the bid amount you receive, so they are free to change it at will, but, depending on the content and amount of traffic your site has, you might find it well worth the few minutes it takes. Google calls their partner program AdSense. These contextual ad programs have given rise to a new term - click-spamming - which happens when a partner website owner arranges for other parties to click on a contextual ad on his site so his revenue will increase. As you can imagine, this activity is being actively fought by Google and Overture.

Whether you are watching your ad dollars or making a few, keep your eyes on the PPC wars. It promises to be an interesting battle.

It's been said the difference between the "haves" and the
"have-nots" - can be traced back to the people who did ...
and the people who did not!


When it comes to creating a money-making niche, consider
using what I call the principle of yucky.


Using the principle of yucky is one of the quickest ways to
make money you’ll ever find. Period. No hype here.


Master this principle and I can guarantee you’ll never be
broke another day in your life.


In fact, if everyone would use this principle the
unemployment numbers would melt like an ice cube in July.
The Welfare rolls would shrink like a cheap suit, and
poverty would drastically decrease.


So, what exactly is the principle of yucky? I'm glad you
asked, it’s simply doing what other people find disgusting,
irritating, or in a word yucky.


A billionaire once said, “The quickest way to success is to
do what others don’t like to do.” Don’t laugh, most people
are willing to gladly pay money to people who will do the
things they find disgusting, irritating or stressful.
Wouldn’t you?


For example, if you had rats running through your
restaurant at lunchtime would you pay someone to get rid of
them? Of course, you would.


But rats aren’t the only things people find disgusting or
yucky. Thousands of yucky services exist that people will
pay you to do. The key point here is the thing may be yucky
to them, but not to you, especially if you can grow rich
doing it. Believe me, money in your pocket will make it
less yucky - whatever it is.


For example, take the man in Florida who has a business
that makes over $100,000 a year picking up dog poop in
parks. The single mother who started a business cleaning
bathrooms earning over $5,000 a week. Or the husband and
wife team who clears $2,000 a week bathing dogs in the
clients home.


Yes, the list is endless; it’s only limited by your
imagination. You’d be surprised what people will pay you
for, just to get out of doing it themselves. Use this
attitude to make money.


You’ll discover the most penny-pinching, tightwad, miser
will gladly throw money at you. Why? To get out of doing
something they find yucky, disgusting, irritating or
stressful. Haven't you been paying attention?


That’s what makes the principle of yucky so valuable my
friend, especially to the alert entrepreneurial-minded
person. In fact, if you are an entrepreneurial minded
person $ signs should be slowly swirling around your head
as you read this article.


You now have the start of a small niche business that could
make you big money, very quickly and with very little risk.
From a business point of view what could be better than
that?


Thousands of people in your local area will gladly pay you
to help them do some yucky routine stuff in their life.
They’re just waiting for you to offer your services to
them. An added benefit if you act fast- will be litttle or
no competition!


If you have an established business, you can use the
principle of yucky to get an edge on your competition. You
simply do what your competitors don’t, can’t, or won't do.
Believe me your customers will take notice. Wouldn’t you?
