Let Everyone Know It Is A "Draft"
Working on a Word doc and want every one to know it is a draft? Go
ahead and make the word "draft" appear faintly in a Word 2002 printed
document. Word calls these "watermarks." To add one to a printed document,
from the Format menu, select Background and then Printed Watermark. To
insert a text watermark, click Text watermark and then the text you want.
Select any additional options, such as the watermark appearing diagonally or
horizontally, and click Apply. To see your watermark onscreen, click File
and Print Preview.
For Word 97, a watermark is applied in a header or footer, but,
either can be located anywhere on the page, so the result is the same.
KNOW YOUR FREE SPACE
Planning to add hundreds of music files to your hard drive? Wondering
if you have the space to handle them all? It's easy to find out! In Windows
XP, click Start>>My Computer. Right click the listing for your hard drive
(probably C:). Click Properties.
The hard drive's size and space available are listed, along with a pie-chart
representation. To access this in Windows 98 and ME, double click the My
Computer icon on the desktop. Right-click the hard drive and click
Properties.

Hello, glad you joined us again for another issue
of the BusinessBuilder Newsletter.
I spent a week away but am glad to be back home, and glad to
bring you another BusinessBuilder.
Direct IP Advertisement
A few days ago I received an offer to download a free copy of software that
would allow me to send advertisements direct to computers, bypassing email
programs. And it included "billions" of IP addresses I could use. I'm sure
you have heard of this technology. It can only send messages to
Windows 2000/XP/NT machines, but if you use one of those operating systems,
you may already have received an ad by this method. It is touted as not
being spam, since it doesn't use email. I am told Microsoft developed it and
uses it, as do all the "big guys." It seems to me that it meets the
unrequested/unwelcome criteria that applies to a lot of email I receive.

Making Your Mark, Part II
Mindset Matters

Last time I talked about the tendency to feel
that your website and your business could never compete with the millions of
other pages that are put up each day. (You can read it
here.)
I pointed out that, because you are "unique au monde" - unique in the world
- it was important to translate that uniqueness into your business and
website, and that in doing so, you would take a big step toward success.
This time I want to continue that thought,
but shift gears somewhat toward the mindset that you need to make your
business unique, and successful.
I have something to contribute
In keeping with the idea of your uniqueness, you need to have the mindset
that you do have something that is not only unique, but of value. You see,
being unique is a simple quality of every human being, but contributing
something of unique value in your business isn't automatic. Developing the
mindset doesn't make it happen, but it is unlikely to happen without the
mindset. You have something that you feel passionate about, and that has led
you into your business. Applying, explaining and transferring that passion
to your customers is how you make your contribution real.
I'm willing to appear foolish to express
it
This may sound ridiculous on the face of it, but hear me out. If you're IBM,
it doesn't matter. But if you are starting a business of your own, dependent
on the stamp of identity you put on it, you better be both willing to really
express your uniqueness and ready to accept being ignored or rejected by
some. In the online world, being ignored and being rejected often appear
identical! Many of us are too tentative and timid to really let our true
selves be expressed, fearful of rejection. I don't know any other way to say
it except "Get over it!" Rest assured I'm not suggesting boorish or
offensive language or expression. There is plenty of room for making your
mark in your business without going to that extreme.
I will persistently develop my uniqueness
Let's face it, your style, whatever it may be, will take time to develop.
Don't give up before the process is beginning to bear fruit in your
enjoyment of this small expression of who God meant you to be, and more
tangible evidences of your success. Hang in there! Ask yourself, what would
my business look like if I knew I couldn't fail? This is a big step toward
giving yourself the freedom to start making your uniqueness the mark of your

Don't you hate being last? I know I do. This is especially true when it
comes to a "hot new product."
Typically, new product launches go something like this:
The person developing the product contacts people who own large lists in
his target market. He tells them about the impending launch and creates
strategic alliances to get these "big lists" on his team. Finally, he
launches the product with major announcements in all of these ezines.
Those who get in early tend to do much better than those who don't.
So, how can you be one of those who gets in early? Here are some keys:
1. Make sure you are subscribed to the "big lists" and that you scan all
the emails they send you regularly, taking note of new offers and
promotions.

2. Build your own list to 10,000 subscribers or more in your target

There are two reasons you want this size list:
(1) You want to have people to advertise the new product or
opportunity to - and -
(2) Once your list gets big enough YOU will be on the list of people
contacted BEFORE a big launch.
3. Evaluate every new product or service carefully, making sure to
advertise only those of real value to your list.
4. Respond quickly to new product launches you think will fit your list.
5. Create a way to capture email addresses from the people who sign-up
for your list so that as people take
advantage of a product you are promoting they become YOUR customer, not
just the product seller's.
Instead of being left out in the dark with the "next big
thing", prepare and profit from it. You will be amazed at how well these
promotions will work for you.
