- Keeping the
Dream Alive Keeping the Dream Alive I saw a greeting card the other day that said on the front, "They say we learn the most from our most difficult circumstances." Inside it said, "What a stupid system!" We can chuckle and agree with the sentiment expressed, but the truth is we didn't originate the "system," we just have to live with it, and hopefully, even learn from it. As with most other things that take a period of time to accomplish, the effort of starting and building an online business involves more than a little "learning from difficult circumstances." There are a few who hit the bulls eye with the first arrow, but for most of us any degree of success comes from a willingness to learn from mistakes and failures, make corrections and try again. And not just once or a few times, but continually. These corrections can come in all forms, from shutting down websites that didn't fit your new goals (I've done that!) to admitting that the 'can't miss' program that you promoted heavily is a loser (done that too!), with a whole lot more in between. But there are also times when we need to simply persevere instead of bail out. I have observed that the degree of enthusiasm I can bring to my business can vary considerably, depending on what else is going on in my life at the time. If you allow your attention and enthusiasm to be so absorbed by other factors that you lose sight of the original vision for your business, you may be tempted to bail out of any number of things crucial to your business success. I am not suggesting the solution is to neglect your family or other obligations, but to recognize that there are times when you shouldn't make major decisions based on feelings which turn out to be temporary. Take a little time to re-assess what you are doing and why, and refresh your mind on how all these things fit together to move you toward your original dream. In the meantime, keep doing the things you know need to be done, including that extra email that answers a question from someone who hasn't bought anything from you, etc. In a few words, keep the dream alive by periodic assessment of why you're doing what you're doing, and the rest of the time simply keep on keeping on. If there's a "system" for success, that combination of learning and perseverance is surely part of it.
